I. Sheep were given four Merent diets which contained two types of forage and two types of concentrate. The forage portion of the diet consisted of either hay or silage, while the low-oil concentrate had high levels of starch and in the high-oil concentrate this starch was replaced by an isoenergetic amount of soya-bean oil. 2.
